My Professional Background

With 10 years’ experience of working with children behind me I have completely found my passion within the field of ‘Play’. It is true, Playwork is my profession. In my eyes the BEST job in the world. Children today tend not to have as much freedom to roam around and play in ways that we used to. We as playworkers exist for this exact reason. Children have told us time and time again that play is important to them. We as playworkers really recognise the importance of play. My playwork qualification was completed in Wales, I am proud to say that Wales was the first country in the world to have a national play policy! And Wales continues to lead the way in supporting children’s play. In my current role with Nature Play Solutions, I facilitate our popular open-ended play incursions and facilitate professional development sessions. I have the view that I really do have ‘The best job in the world!’

With a particular interest in supporting the play needs of children with additional needs I have been lucky enough to have experience within this field back in Wales. I worked within an inclusion centre and supported children with profound and multiple learning disabilities throughout their daily activities. This line of work really broadened my experience of working with outside agencies and it also highlighted the importance of inclusive play provisions. I found this job highly rewarding and thoroughly enjoyed every single second.

My Philosophy

The Green Green grass of home for me is a small village called Waunarlwydd in Swansea, South Wales. Although this is where my family home is located I was lucky enough to spend much of my childhood in a village called Llangennith, on the Gower Peninsular. The village sits at the foot of the hills with the ocean being a major focal point of village life. Given the surroundings, you can only imagine how my childhood was spent… splashing around in the ocean and building cubbies at the top of the hill, at every opportunity, come rain or shine.
